Settlements (Debt Sync)Record a transfer

Record a transfer

Use this when you want a record of money that already moved. It does not cover what people owe on an expense until you settle it there. See Settle an expense.

Prerequisites

  • You are signed in
  • Who the money moved between, and how much

Steps

  1. On the home wallet, open the create sheet and choose Transfer. The same form opens from the Transfer button on home, or from Activity, on the Transfers tab, via Add transfer.
  2. Sender starts as You. You stay on one side. Set the other side under Select Peer. The tabs are People and Merchants. The swap arrows trade the two sides.
  3. Enter an amount greater than zero. The date starts as today. You cannot pick a future date.
  4. Pick a category so the form can save. This guide does not explain those choices.
  5. Optionally set a Group, a Transfer Name, or an attachment. If you leave the name blank, Split Smarter names it from the recipient.
  6. If a side is a merchant, you can pick that merchant’s branch, or skip it. The branch is On a transfer.
  7. Save.

A custom contact can be the person who was paid. They cannot be the person who paid.

What good looks like

The transfer appears under Activity, on Transfers, with the amount and who it was from and to. If you set a group, it also appears on that group’s Transactions tab. Opening the row does nothing. There is no screen to edit or delete it.

The related expense is unchanged.
