Settle balances
This continues the dinner you just logged. Alice paid ₹1000. Her share is ₹400. Bob’s share is ₹600. Bob owes Alice ₹600.
Recording that money moved does not cover the bill until you settle that payment on the expense.
Prerequisites
- The dinner expense from Log your first expense
- You are signed in as Bob, the person who owes, so the transfer can be sent as You
Steps
- On the home wallet, open the create sheet and choose Transfer.
- Set the amount to ₹600.
- Leave the sender as You. Set the recipient to Alice, the person who is owed.
- Pick a category so the form can save.
- Save the transfer. The dinner expense still shows Bob owing Alice until you settle this payment on the bill.
- Open the dinner expense. Under Settlement Path, choose Use Transfer.
- On Settle, the ₹600 payment is under From past transfers. Use Autoselect or Choose, then Settle.
The Add transfer switch on the expense form is different: that one pays a merchant on the bill. See On an expense.
What good looks like
- A transfer exists from you (Bob) to Alice for ₹600.
- On the dinner expense, Settlement Path shows that ₹600 as settled.
Next steps
- The form in full: Record a transfer
- Cover the bill: Settle an expense
