Create a budget
A budget needs a name and an amount. Everything else can stay as it is.
Prerequisites
- You are signed in
Steps
- On the home wallet, open the create sheet and choose Budget. The same form opens from Create New under Budgets & Goals. On a group, open Budgets and choose Create budget. That path already sets Who to Group and fills the group.
- Enter a Budget name, such as Groceries.
- Enter a Spending cap greater than zero. The currency shown is yours. You do not pick a different one.
- Leave Cap strength on Soft unless you want a hard cap. See What the cap does.
- Under Who, keep Just me, or change it.
- Shared needs at least one other person. You stay on the budget. If that person only accepts an invite, they are not included until they accept. See What a connection allows.
- Group needs a Target group.
- Under What counts, leave the tiles empty to watch expense shares in general. Or pick Categories, Places, Merchants, or Memories to narrow it.
- Resets starts on Monthly. You can choose Daily, Weekly, Quarterly, or Yearly. The window starts on Forever. Tap it and choose This month, 90 days, or Custom. The start can be in the past. The end stays open, or is today or later. The end cannot be before the start. Apply window saves that choice. Spending already inside a past start counts toward the cap.
- Choose Create budget.
You can also start from a saved place. Budget there puts that place under Places and fills the name. If the place is not saved yet, save it first.
What good looks like
The form closes after the budget is saved. A group budget then appears on that group’s Budgets tab. A personal or shared budget does not appear in a list of its own.
